How astonishing to come across a reference to Le Grand Meaulnes! The scene in the palace where the protagonist is hiding, observing the party-clad children on their way to the festivities...why does this move me so? I read LGM because it was one of Joseph Cornell's favorite books. I came across it here while looking for Stephen Tennant images for my 'Personages' digifile (currently reading Serious Pleasures. I shall be back, Mr. Ward.
Merry Christmas-almost, Graham! Hope yours is an inspiring one...
